Samuel Adams Longshot Lemon Pepper Saison

I’m on the East coast again.  This time I was able to pick up the Samuel Adams Longshot 6-pack.  Over the next few days, I’ll be reviewing the three different beers available in this pack.

If you don’t know what the Longshot pack is, every year Samuel Adams hosts a homebrew competition, and the top two homebrewed beers are featured as two of the three beers in the six-pack.  The other featured beer is homebrewed by a Samuel Adams employee.  All three beers are converted to commercial recipes and are distributed.

The first one I tried as part of this six-pack was made by Samuel Adams employee Jeremy White, the Lemon Pepper Saison.  It was a light saison that tasted light and citrusy.  It had a fairly clean finish that had a slight pepper aftertaste.

I’m glad Samuel Adams chose this beer because I enjoy saisons, and this is a good example.

Is the Longshot pack available in your area?  Have you tried the Lemon Pepper Saison?

Samuel Adams Glasses For Sale at Retail Stores

If you remember when I wrote that the beer glass makes a difference, you may recall the mention that the Samuel Adams Boston Lager has a glass specifically designed to showcase the strengths of the beer.

As I was browsing the beer aisle, I noticed Samuel Adams is selling two-packs of the special glasses, and of course, I had to pick a set up along with a 12-pack of the lager.

As I stated before, it sure does make a difference!  Compared to your standard pint glass, the hop flavor isn’t overpowering, and the flavor really balances out.  Before this retail pack, you could only order them online, so kudos to Samuel Adams for making the glasses more available!

Have you tried the “perfect pint”?  What are your thoughts?

Samuel Adams Latitude 48

As part of the Summer Mix Pack, Samuel Adams debuted their new IPA, Latitude 48.  It is called Latitude 48 because the American, English, and German hops added are all found around the 48th parallel.

At first, Latitude 48 smells very floral and citrusy, and was a darker red color. At first, it is sweeter than expected, and has a strong hop character. With the taste, I couldn’t pin down which hops were used, but I tasted citrus, pine, and a bit of earthy hop flavors.  My impression was that it was sweet but not overly bitter. It was quite an enjoyable IPA.

Have you tried the Latitude 48?  What did you think?

Summer Beer Time!

Today, when I got home from work, it was time to dust off the lawnmower and make a pass at the lawn.  The grass wasn’t too long, but just patchy enough to need to take care of it.  Not that I was excited to mow the lawn, but you know what it means when it’s time to mow the lawn, right?  Summer beers are here!

Just to double check, I stopped by the store, and sure enough, there were all the summer styles, or “lawnmower beer” styles, on the shelves.  Just to show there were no hard feelings with Samuel Adams, I picked up the “Summer Styles” 12-pack.

The styles in the pack are:

  1. Boston Lager
  2. Sam Adams Light
  3. Summer Ale
  4. Pale Ale
  5. Blackberry Witbier
  6. Latitude 48 (Samuel Adams’ new IPA – review to come)

Every year, I enjoy the mix-packs, and this one is no exception.  With variety like that, how can you hate summer?  Cheers!
